Ok so the first major lesson I have learned about church planting...
You don't register your "business (church)" name with ASIC.
ASIC and Dept of Consumer Protection are 2 different agencies.
ASIC is to register companies... Dept of Consumer Protection is the agency where you apply to become an Incorporated Association.
That is what a new church plant is an "Incorporated Association".
The name you choose for your church must not be on the ASIC register or you will not get your Constitution approved.
Now, I registered our name with ASIC thinking that I wanted to hold that name for our church but really I made a mistake and have pushed our Constitution Approval back a bit by doing this because now I have to pick a name similar to what I want... advertise again in the paper... wait another 4 weeks... then send the Constitution back into the Dept Consumer Protection.
What A pain.
